2017 Public Lecture: Lab to Life

On Wednesday 22nd November 2017, Hunter Cancer Research Alliance (HCRA) and Cancer Council NSW - Hunter Branch, presented a public lecture titled 'Lab to Life - Moving Science into Practice', held at the Newcastle Conservatorium.

It was wonderful to host Professor Barry Bultz from the University of Calgary, Canada alongside local University of Newcastle researchers Associate Professor Simon Keely and Dr Liz Fradgley.  The presentations aimed to discuss gaps that often exist between cancer research discoveries and the adoption of evidence into routine practice.

Dr Simon Keely kicked off the evening, presenting on 'Bench to Bedside Translation'. Download and view Dr Keely's presentation by clicking the link below.

Professor Barry Bultz advocates for the recognition of the impact of cancer-related distress (6th Vital Sign) on patient experience and presented on the importance of screening and management of distress.

Dr Liz Fradgley followed Professor Bultz, also presenting on cancer-related distress, but from an Australian perspective with a presentation titled 'The distressed cancer patient's journey: an Australian audit of distress screening and management practices in cancer services'. It was a well attended event with both members of the public and HCRA and provided a great opportunity for community members and researchers to connect.
